2017 Queens Beer Week Kick Off Review

Dark clouds gathered across the river as a cold chill hung in the air over LIC Landing. The torrential down pour that left most of down state New York under a flash flood warning the day before was still fresh in everyone’s mind. To make things worse a mix up with the tent deliveries left all the brewers without cover from the elements. The mood was anything but optimistic and bordered on combustible. Shortly before kickoff time a slight drizzle began to fall and the events success was in serious doubt.

And then, just like that 4pm hit, the heavens opened up and the sun poked through the clouds. A warm breeze gently filled the air, the crowds began filtering into the water front park and the beer started to flow in almost a celestial manor. No more weather doom and gloom, in fact it was quite opposite and from then on and out as they say the rest is history. The 2017 Queens Beer Week event lived up to the hype and dare I say surpassed it. The event, quite possibly the best in its young history was a resounding success. All of Queens Finest brewery representatives were on display pouring copious amounts of delicious libation:

From the crowd to the premier media sponsors in less than a year, BTBT was all smiles during the Kick Off and not just because of all the Queens beer we were crushing. Being part of this event and being able to play a role in the vibrant and growing Queens craft beer culture is something truly special.   It was a glorious celebration of both beer and the borough’s well known diversity and strength. As us home town cats tend to say, it’s a Queens thing.

The event was purely communal both in its inception and execution which is a testament to those dedicated to the scene. The Queens community came together and stood side by side proudly drinking fine brews. joking, laughing and enjoying the beautiful Manhattan skyline from across the river.

Not only did we get to hang out at a great venue and drink some good beers, The Kick Off Event gave to those in need and reinforced its commitment to the community.

This year's Kick-Off raised over 4 grand for two local non-profit organizations, the Friends of Firefighters and the Hunters Point Park Conservancy.

Friends of Firefighters are dedicated to addressing the physical, mental health, and wellness needs of New York City’s firefighters and their families.

Hunters Point Parks is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in Hunters Point by preserving and enhancing its parks, green spaces and waterfront in partnership with the community.
